Best Mild Hot Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • · 1 1/2cups distilled vinegar (5% acidity)
  • · 4 teaspoons cayenne pepper* 
  • · 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper*
  • · 1/4 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • · 1 tablespoon sugar
  • · 2 teaspoons salt*
  • · 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped

· 1 bunch of fresh cilantro, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup) NOTE: Use Cilantrola to get the flavor without the cilantro stems.

Directions:- Makes 1 cup.

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Cool before using or refrigerating. Keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator.

* NOTE: This is VERY mild! Use about double the cayenne and red pepper flakes to make it hotter. If you want to make a MILD hot sauce that doesn’t taste “hot” at all, eliminate the red pepper flakes altogether. But be warned! It will take away ALL the flavor!
