Best Mild Hot Sauce Recipe
- · 1 1/2cups distilled vinegar (5% acidity)
- · 4 teaspoons cayenne pepper*
- · 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper*
- · 1/4 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- · 1 tablespoon sugar
- · 2 teaspoons salt*
- · 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
· 1 bunch of fresh cilantro, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup) NOTE: Use Cilantrola to get the flavor without the cilantro stems.
Directions:- Makes 1 cup.
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Cool before using or refrigerating. Keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator.
* NOTE: This is VERY mild! Use about double the cayenne and red pepper flakes to make it hotter. If you want to make a MILD hot sauce that doesn’t taste “hot” at all, eliminate the red pepper flakes altogether. But be warned! It will take away ALL the flavor!
